One of the best things was the direct video call. As long as you were registered to Globe’s Unli25 promo, you could make video calls just like a normal call—no need for data, no need for apps like Messenger. Simple and direct.
Another favorite was the Logs. Even if someone deleted the call history or text messages, you could still see in the main log who called and what messages were sent. You couldn’t hide anything—that was really something! 🤣
Then there was the Delivered Text feature. This one was gold. For example, if someone texted me at 6AM but my phone was off, and I only turned it on at 3PM, I’d still see that the message was sent at 6AM. Nowadays on Android, if that happens, the message often just shows as if it arrived at 3PM—even if it was actually sent yesterday. Nokia had it right.
I also loved using my Nokia E72 as a dongle for my laptop to connect to the internet. It was even faster and more reliable than Globe’s broadband stick. 🥰
And the signal reception was impressive too. In Sulu, even when the signal was weak, the Nokia E72 could still pick up 3G and stream YouTube without buffering. Back in 2010, when I used it in Iligan, sometimes the 3G data was even stronger.
Those Nokias were built different. Strong, reliable, and packed with smart features that we still miss today.
